…but Eternal Peace

Taking it right down to the wire with this month’s 12 Tags of 2016, but I got it done using a lovely stamp and die from Heartfelt Creations for my centre piece.

For the remnant rub resist I’ve used various remnant rubs that seemed to fit with the theme I’ve chosen of Remembrance Day.  I also chose my focal image of a poppy based on that theme, I’m making these tags to exchange with a friend at the end of the year and each one is themed to match the month it was made in.  It was easy doing the dimensional colouring technique with this image as there are matching dies and layers in different sizes.  So I coloured up two sizes of the poppies with Distress Ink Reinkers and, while still damp, used my Marion Smith Bloom Impression Tool to shape them like poppy petals.  For added dimension I filled the centre with Prills, had to colour these with Various Ink as I only have brown ones.

I don’t own any alphabet dies but I had two different ‘peace’ dies, neither was going to give me the same effect as Tim created but what’s a challenge tag without a bit of challenging paper piecing?!  I used the negative and then filled in the little bits to be able to see the letters.  I like the whole effect, using a Kraft tag so it is a slightly dirty colour background, the not quite easy to read, almost worn out lettering.  It all goes to the long drawn-out and difficult conflict this is made in honour of.  I finished off with a metal dove embellie, the symbol of peace, which I hightlighted with a Picket Fence Distress Crayon.

With the die cuts I am entering my tag in the current Friday Funday challenge at Jo’s Scrap Shack.  Over at Daring Cardmakers they are looking for tags so I am entering mine there too.

But now everything is different…

I’m sharing a card today featuring an image from the Let’s Celebrate! set from Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps.

I had the great honour of being crowned the CAS Perfectionist over at Addicted to CAS for their ‘Monster’ challenge and am guesting there today with this card.  The current theme is ‘Celebrate’.

Now I knew I wanted to make a birthday card for a friend, which would meet the theme of celebrate but then I saw the current challenge at Deep Ocean was to find inspiration from a song or movie.  Which got me thinking about my Kraftin’ Kimmie stamps and the one I chose that kinda reminded me of Julia Roberts in that red dress.  I know it’s not quite the same but it’s not bad so I coloured up the dress in bright red.

I could have gone with the conventional ‘happy birthday’ sentiment but with the celebrate theme and thinking about Pretty Woman I chose to go with ‘celebrate you’ instead.  I was thinking about that scene where Edward tells Vivian he thinks she is very special, it’s not the red dress scene but I didn’t think a couple in bed was the best image to go with!  But I think the red dress scene is one where Vivian starts to think maybe she is; clothes might not make the woman but that red dress certainly would make anyone feel like they could take on the world.

The champagne cork is also from the same Kraftin’ Kimmie set and to add a bit of sparkle to my card I’ve embossed a spray of champagne.  With my heat embossing I am entering it in the current challenge at Crafty Cardmakers.

This is a CAS card so generally no embellies but I did scatter a few tiny gems for champagne bubbles.  With these sparkly bits I am also linking my card up at Mod Squad.
A big thank you to the DT at Addicted to CAS for the chance to join them for this challenge and help celebrate their fourth birthday.  I had a lot of fun making up my card.

when the world is puddle-wonderful…

I’m sharing a card today with a fun image from Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps called Make a Splash!.

I’ve taken the inspiration for my colours from the current challenge over at Just Us Girls, the colours to use were teal, gold and purple.  I wanted to make this a bit more interesting by going ombre, which is the current theme at Addicted to CAS.  Not sure the background splash of colour looks all that ombre, was hard to do over the mask for the stencil.  The background inking follows the ombre style of gradients of one colour.  For a bit more interest and to really test myself with my colouring I also did the trench coat on the image in ombre but this time the version where an item has two distinctly different colours.  Was actually quite fun to do and I think it looks pretty good too.

As my card features an image of a female and is going out to a female friend I am also entering it in the current “Girls, Girls, Girls” challenge at Cards und More.

We don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day

I’m sharing a card using one of the stamps from the Runway set by Tim Holtz.

We had a bit of a bushfire thing happened here today with warnings to stay indoors with the doors and windows shut.  So what’s a girl to do but get in some extra crafting time, after all it was too smoky to do anything that required too much exertion.  OK, so that’s my story anyway and I’m sticking to it!

So having the chance at a some just for fun crafting I went looking for some challenges for inspiration and, as I love to play with Edna, I was pleased to see she’d just posted up a new challenge of getting your doodle on.  Now what could be better I thought than a bit of Zentangle (see, now you thought Edna had turned all dirty, didn’t you?) to keep one calm amidst the fire emergency.  Hmm, after taking a look at the Zentangle class at Wanderlust I was less certain and after a couple of failed attempts I’m now of the view of the guest DT, Jessa (not repeating here in case there are any of the feint heart reading this).  Edna clearly has a different idea of relaxing, like making others go stir crazy!  In case anyone is wondering, my Zentangle is an attempt at a shattuck tangle step out.

I put Edna’s doodling together with the sewing from Crazy 4 Challenges and the current sketch at Sketch Saturday and my card is what came out of the mix.  I wanted it to look like the image was in a spotlight on a runway, cue the Zentangle.  I framed the spotlight in a stitched circle die (sewing element one) and my whole theme is of a fashion show (sewing element two).  To give the necessary stage for the image I flipped the sketch and swapped out the square for a circle.

I kept everything black and white with just the dress as the pop of colour as I’d imagine wanting to do if I ever held a fashion show.  In keeping with that theme I’ve added the sentiment inside a roll of film die cut, it’s kinda small and was a bit of a pain to add in but I think it gives just the right effect.

Oh, and to give this card the necessary bit of snarkiness, here’s the inside with the continuation of the sentiment.  Not sure who I’ll give this card to but it was a bit of fun, zentangling and all.
