Um mundo novo

Sharing my Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2016 August tag today.

I was struggling with a theme for this one but then I needed something to go with a gift for a friend, a male friend who has, like many an Aussie male, been avidly following Australia at the Olympics.  Which then gave me not only my theme but my colour combo for my brayered stain background; green and gold the Aussie sporting colours.  I only had one green and one yellow stain, Peeled Paint and Wild Honey, so those were the colours I went with.  I echoed them in the crinkle ribbon I added to the top of the tag.

The only Frameworks die I have is the Wave one so that’s what I used.  I cut one piece and filled it with metallic elements to signify the three medal types.  The others I coloured to match the colours on the podium at the Rio games, again I was somewhat limited by my Distress Paint colours as to the shades of orange, blue and greed I had.  I filled them with cork and corrugated surfaces as they were the closest thing I had to something wood, which I image the podium is made out of.

As this is for a man I kept my embellies fairly simple, mostly Remnant Rubs.  It’s hard to see the gold one I used (from Gilded Holidays), it is ‘believe’, I also used ‘joy’ from the silver sheet.  Thankfully my die cut took up the space where the bronze one would have been as I didn’t have any rub-ons in bronze.  Love the effect of the clock running off the side of the tag, a timepiece fitting both the Olympic and the birthday theme of time going by.  As I also have sentiments from my Small Talk stickers I am entering my tag in the current challenge at Aud Sentiments.

I didn’t have an appropriate die so found a cut in the Silhouette store that suited.  As my die isn’t as slender and detailed as the wild flower Tim used it was a bit black and boring so I randomly dabbed Tim’s Artist Components stamp inked with Distress Embossing Ink and added embossing powder.  I used Paula Cheney’s trick of two toned embossing powders on the torch to tone down the silver.  Wasn’t sure it would work mixing Distress Embossing Powder and regular but it did.  I thought the flames would look good in Distress Embossing Powder too but unfortunately the only red I had was Aged Mahogany that didn’t show up on the black and Old Paper that was too green.  So I used them to adhere some copper and gold embossing powder for more of a flame effect.

With my lack of an image or scenery stamp I am also entering my tag at Nordsalten Hobbyklubb for their current challenge.

Come and watch us sing and play…

Today I’m sharing a CAS card featuring a Cheeky Monkey from Clearly Besotted.

I’ve made up this card following the current sketch at CAS(E) this Sketch, using ink to create the various elements.  I stencilled the two stripes and then used stamps from the Clearly Besotted set for the rest of the elements.

I tried some mirror image stamping, while it wasn’t an epic fail it wasn’t the best result either.  I just couldn’t get a good clean imprint of the stamp on my flat stamp to then transfer to the card.  In the end I had to outline it again with a marker to give it the same black outline as the right way round monkey.

My colour scheme comes from Hand Stamped Sentiments, I just swapped out Tim Holtz Distress inks for the Stampin’ Up! ones as I don’t have any of the latter.  I am not loving watercolouring with Reinkers, I am clearly not patient enough to let things dry as I have a lot of colour run!

I’ve gone with CAS and non-feminine images as this card is heading out to a male friend, a big kid at heart who tends to go a bit bananas even when it’s not his birthday.  Over at Creative Craft Cottage they are looking for projects for men or boys so I am entering my card there.

Pwned

I’m sharing a CAS card I made using Video Girl from Mo’s Digital Pencil.

This is going out to a gamer colleague for her birthday, which happens to be the current theme at Crafty Gals’ Corner, so I’m entering my card there.  To make up my card I’ve followed the current sketch at Sketch Saturday.  I’m not much of a gamer myself, OK, I am not a gamer at all, but the kind the recipient plays are those role play type ones where you enter a new ‘world’ and navigate through it.  Taking that as my cue I used some designer paper with a map of constellations and then added in lines of washi tape with stars to suggest the different universe of the game.

I decided to use washi tape for the top portion as the current theme at The Paper Girls is washi tape.  I’ve never done a big block of the background out of washi but I think it worked well and, amazingly, the washi was just the right width to fit perfectly without the need for any trimming.

And people say we monkey around…

I’m sharing a cute card featuring Cheeky Monkey stamps from Clearly Besotted.

I blame my crafty friend, Jenny Dix, entirely for this card (go check out her awesome creations on her blog for some inspiration).  She made a shaker card with these same stamps and I had to have them and then I just had to make a shaker card with them.  Although my card doesn’t follow the same layout it is ‘CASed’ from Jenny’s you can find here, so I am entering mine in the current challenge at Little Red Wagon.

To make up my card I’ve followed the sketch over at My Time to Craft, turning the rectangular elements into shaker panels.  I’ve got four monkeys on my card as this will go out to a colleague from my little team of four.  With my four little monkeys I am entering this at Unicorn Challenge.
